Allergy Symptoms of Peanuts

Body’s reaction to peanut, which is manifested as allergy, is a serious illness. Once body comes in contact with peanut, it releases histamines to counteract. The body fights the allergens and exhibits allergic symptoms. Peanut allergy is very common like shell fish, fish and egg.  Snake bite, dust , pollen, food are also allergic substances.

Millions of people in America are suffering from peanut allergy –a deadly allergy. That’s why, it is necessary to know the facts about its reactions. More so, if someone in one’s family is suffering from peanut allergy.

A small dose may start peanut allergy. It is characterized by anaphylactic shock. The symptoms cause swelling, breathing trouble, gastrointestinal discomfort, collapse of blood circulation, heart failure and death.

Like any other allergy, peanut allergy has no treatment. Treatments are made for symptoms only. Peanut allergic patient should avoid peanuts in any form or dose. To arrest reactions, the patient should be injected with adrenalin or epinephrine. This could control anaphylactic shock. Adrenalin increase heart rate, constrict blood vessel, reduce swelling and relax muscles. Once the symptoms subside, the patient should be shifted to hospital.

One should not endanger himself to the illness. People suffering from peanut allergy have problems in traveling by air. Since peanut is a staple food in most airlines, it is advised that a peanut allergic person should carry a Doctor’s certificate stating that he is allergic to peanut.

Certain tips before the trip are:  consult your doctor about the dose of adrenalin to carry, ensure himself of peanut free food, any child accompanying him who may be sensitive – wipe every surface that he may come in contact, in case of allergic reaction must stay calm and follow doctor’s instructions, alert airline crew about the emergency so that medical attention is available as soon the plane lands.
