Peanut Allergy –Life Long Affair

Recent data collected in America, indicates that a population of 1.5 Million were suffering from peanut allergy. Certain type of allergy is the main cause of anaphylaxis.
It was also reported that in 80% of this lethal reactions cases, peanut allergy is the cause. People, therefore, should report to Doctor when they experience the reactions after peanut consumption. The Doctor will do the diagnosis and prescribe the medicine depending upon severity of the case. By reporting to the Doctor immediately at the onset of symptoms, unpleasant consequences may be averted.

People should know all about the symptoms of peanut allergy and must also be able to distinguish between peanut intolerance and peanut allergy. The former is characterized to indigestion and heartburn. The latter has many serious symptoms. In peanut intolerance, the immune system of the body does not have role. In peanut allergy, the immune system has a major role. The immune system of a peanut allergic reacts vigorously as soon as he eats additional protein in the form of peanuts, presuming the same as a dangerous substance. As a result, the immune system discharges chemical called histamine. This histamine is responsible for all the reactions and symptoms.

The symptoms of peanut allergy are similar to other type of allergies. The severity of the reactions and symptoms also vary from man to man depending upon the immunity of the person. The amount of peanut intake is also a factor. The allergic reaction anaphylactic associated with peanut allergy is deadly and characterized by wheezing, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and irregular pulse rate. Anaphylactic shock turns lips, nails and skin blue due to lack of oxygen.

Solution to peanut allergy is to avoid peanut intake in any form. Adult can follow the golden rule easily. For Children it is difficult. But, children may outgrow peanut allergy.
